Here are a couple notes on PlayStation games.
For the Japanese launch, 1up.com has a big preview of We Love Katamari, the sequel to Katamari Damacy. While play is just about the same, there's a cooperative two-player mode, and much more variety in levels. Best news: 1up.com reports the music is pretty cool in this one, too.
It's still a few months until the U.S. release, but from what we've seen it's safe to say that Katamari maniacs will find this (very literal) piece of fanservice worth the wait.
My friend who stayed up all night with me to get a DS at Fry's on launch day recently got a PSP, and while Mercury is way too hard for me to be fun, I admit Lumines is pretty damned cool. You drop square quads of blocks that are either white or some other color, to make quads of a single color that are cleared--but only when the sideways-sweeping vertical bar crosses them. It also has awesome music that seems to simply blend away into the gameplay. It's the most fun shape-dropping game I've played since I was totally hooked on Tetris for the original Game Boy.
As I told my friend, Lumines is cool enough to make me want to buy a PSP--as soon as there's some other game I'd want to play too.
