Here's some old news I've queued up. Nikkei Electronics Asia has a brief feature on the parts in the Nintendo DS, with several bits on how Nintendo used cheaper parts to maximize fun per dollar. Meanwhile David at buzzcut.com describes how Nintendo's profit margin is an underreported business story, especially amidst the glitz and vapor promised by Sony and Microsoft at E3.
With a net margin of over 20% [vs Sony's 11%]... Nintendo’s business engine is so efficient that even though they sell far less than Sony, they make, bottom line, about as much as all of Sony.... We get excited about big ideas and the glitz and glory that colossal investments can create. But we miss the simple, sober successes of a solid business plan.
Bandai announced Tamagotchi DS, to which the LJ community says, "Who wants Tamagotchi DS, when you have Nintendogs?" The group also mentioned the IGN review of Trauma Center: Under the Knife. Tycho of Penny Arcade has nice words (and a nice comic) for Kirby's Canvas Curse. Also, Popgadget notes the Reuters report that Nintendo will set up one thousand WiFi hotspots in Japan to encourage DS internet play. In even older news, I didn't mention that Nintendo demoed a VOIP application on the DS at E3.
Lastly, my copy of WarioWare Twisted arrived today, so now I'll go charge my DS and try it out.
